Office of the Public Affairs, United States Embassy Islamabad on Saturday organised a sports diplomacy event "Empowering Women through Sports" at the Ibex Club, Lake View Park to highlight the role of sports and active lifestyle in advancing the status of women in society.
The event featured Vanessa O' Brien, an American mountaineer and explorer, who recently attempted to summit Pakistan's K2 and Broad Peak mountains together during the 2015 climbing season. She headed the event to share her knowledge of outdoor sports and positive message about women's empowerment with Pakistani youth.
Wall climbing and archery competition was organised and sponsored by Pakistan-US Alumni Network (PUAN). This one-day event focused on dynamic, exciting sport activities to enable women to believe in their abilities, self-reliance; leadership and team work as well as to mobilise others to do the same. Activities like wall climbing competition, archery, three-leg race and so many other programmes were part of the event.
