People belonging to various walks of life including business community have urged upon the government to take practical steps for the construction of maximum dams including Kala Bagh Dam for the larger national interests. The timely decision of the government on the construction of mega project of Kala Bagh dam would help in ensuring food, energy and water security while it will bring prosperity to all four Provinces of the country they said.
Talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday the President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Fazal Jilani said that the construction of Kala Bagh dam is necessary for strengthening national economy as well as to cope with the energy crisis. The establishment of Kala Bagh dam would help to save millions acres of water going down in sea every year which was irreparable loss for the country he said. The SCCI President pointed out that Kala Bagh dam will be helpful for all Provinces to bring their barren land under cultivation for collective benefits of the nation.
Undoubtedly, the difference of opinion is one trait of democracy but for the sake of differences the projects of national importance should not be abandoned he said. Fazal said that Federal and Provincial governments should also conduct a detailed survey for the construction of small dams for the storage of rain and flood water for the use of agricultural purposes.
Fazal said the construction of mega project of Kala Bagh dam will help in generating maximum electricity which is direly needed for the industrial sector of the country adding that industrial sector is rendering laudable services not only in fetching valuable foreign exchange but also providing employment opportunities to thousand industrial workers across the country. While expressing his views Ex-Senior Vice President SCCI Mian Muhammad Anwar said that the construction of Kala Bagh dam had become imperative at this juncture when country is facing shortage of electricity.
