In an intelligence based operation, security forces have busted a foreign sponsored gang of terrorists and foiled a bid to sabotage August 14 celebrations in Karachi. According to ISPR here on Wednesday, some high value targets including Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat chapter naib ameer in Karachi, Bakhat Zaman have been apprehended.
According to details, gang had been planning for some time and had prepared an explosive laden vehicle and a motor cycle which they were to use on Youm-e-Azadi. During interrogation apprehended terrorists confessed that vehicles were arranged from Karachi and now they were waiting for suicide bombers who had to arrive from Afghanistan and ameer of Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat chapter was in Afghanistan for the same purpose.
After the tipoff, security agencies continued surveillance of group for weeks before the operation was simultaneously launched on August 9, in Hyderabad and Karachi to arrest the culprits. An explosive laden vehicle and a motor cycle have also been recovered. Some more startling revelations are expected during interrogation.
