On the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan a crackdown has been launched against those contractors and government officers who were involved in getting fake advance payments worth millions of rupees in connection with different development schemes in the tribal areas and seven such contractors were arrested in Kurram, FR Tank and FR D.I.Khan recovering millions of rupees from them.
The governor had learnt that some contractors in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas after getting contracts for different development schemes were involved in receiving huge advance payments before the commencement of the ground work or on presenting certain preliminary fake documents.
He had also learnt that they were doing so on the behest of some of the government officers of the concerned nation building departments. It was also learnt that the contractors after receiving the advance payments had left the schemes incomplete or had shown them complete in papers only and thus misappropriated huge public funds.
In this connection the governor has issued directives to the concerned authorities to identify all such type of schemes and expose the contractors as well as the government officers involved with them. He has also directed to take strict action against them and to recover all amounts so far taken by the contractors as advance payments.
In the preliminary stage only in Kurram Agency, FR Tank and FR D.I.Khan the contractors who were absconding after receiving advance payments to the tune of more than Rs. 130 million were identified. Those contracts included construction of road, repair, public health schemes and other type of contracts relating to the nation building departments.
Seven contractors who proved guilty of getting public funds with fake documents and unfair means were arrested and an amount of Rs. 55 million recovered from them. Moreover, measures are being taken to recover the remaining amounts and take action against those officers who were patronising the contractors in this connection.
The Governor said transparent and proper use of the public exchequer would be ensured at all cost and all those involved in misappropriating that funds would be dealt with an iron hands irrespective of how approachable they are. He expressed the hope that the tribal people and all those contractors who were earning money with legal and Halal way would extend their full co-ordination to the government functionaries in a bid to expose all the illegal ones.
