Former captain Rashid Latif has called upon the International Cricket Council (ICC) for launching Cricket World Cup for impaired cricketers. He said this at a news conference here at the National Stadium on Wednesday held in connection with Pakistan team's participation in the five-nation Disable Cricket Tournament being held in Dhakka (Bangladesh) next month.
President Pakistan Disable Cricket Association (PDCA), Saleem Karim, Secretary Amiruddin Ansari, Senior Manager NSK Arshad Khan and PDCA Media Manager Muhammad Nizam also spoke on the occasion. Rashid said cricket is getting very popular among the disabled persons and Pakistan Disable Cricket Association (PDCA) has played a vital role in its development.
He said he is supporting the cause of cricket for disabled persons since its launch and is keen to see World Cup for impaired cricketers is being staged. Amiruddin thanked the PCB for partial funding of their trip to Bangladesh with Rupees half a million support besides providing lodging, practice matches and camp facilities at National Stadium.
He also thanked the PCB for allowing the PDCA team for using PCB official logo-kit. He also thanked ex-Test cricketer Iqbal Qasim for his sincere efforts to promote the disabled cricket. Amir said ICC also appointing officials to monitor the event. Bangladesh will take on England in the opening match on September 2. In the meantime Pakistan disabled cricketers training camp at the PCB Regional Academy here August 24 and team will leave for Bangladesh in the wee hours of August 31. Pakistan diable team will play their opening match against Afghanistan on September 3 and against England on September 7.
