Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has assured that the problems of tobacco growers will be seriously taken up at the highest level so that it is resolved at the earliest. Talking to a representative delegation of District Swabi, led by Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Asad Qaiser which also included the newly Elected members of the different tiers of local government, he expressed his anger when he heard despite their agreements tobacco companies are rejecting the harvests of tobacco growers due to which they are suffering great financial losses.
The Chief Minister informed the delegation that on the persuasion of Speaker he had taken up the gas and electricity problems of the area with the Federal Government and WAPDA and every effort was being made to resolve it on urgent basis. It was revealed on the occasion that works on supply of electricity to the district directly from Tarbela Power House was in progress and would be completed well before the end of this financial year. The issue of compensation to the affectees of Tarbela Dam also came up under discussion over which the Chief Minister said that let the local representatives of the area come with a consensus proposal in this regard.
Expressing overwhelming confidence over the leadership of Pervez Khattak and Speaker Asad Qaiser as well as the PTI led Government in the Province; the elected representatives of the local government appreciated the devolution of powers to the gross root level which will help the local people resolve their problems at their door steps. They assured to work for the success of the system and serve the masses to the best of their abilities. The members of the delegation also took up their reservations about the property tax in the area regarding which; the Chief Minister said that they should also work out a feasible and concrete proposal in this regard.
Addressing the delegation, Pervez Khattak said that PTI had swept elections in the Province both at the provincial and local government levels because it has presented its agenda of change, the changing of the whole system which is aimed at eradicating corruption, ensuring transparency and strengthening institutions and upholding merit at all levels. He regretted that our rulers in the past had ignored the strengthening of institutions and that Pakistan was lagging behind in development.
