The UK border force has imposed a civil penalty of up to £10,000 (pounds) on the Managing Director Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Shahnawaz Rehman over non-compliance of its requirement; it was learnt. In a letter sent to Shahnawaz Rehman, Teresa Hardy Deputy Director, Head of Carrier Delivery UK border force, said that PIA MD had failed to provide the required passenger information by the time stated in the request made under paragraph 27B(2) of Schedule 2 to the Immigration Act 1971.
He said that Shahnawaz was advised on July 3, 2015 for his purportedly failure to comply with a written requirement served upon on March 19, 2015 to supply information about passenger, crew and service. As a result of his non-compliance of the said requirement, Teresa said that Shahnawaz may now be subject to a civil penalty of up to £10,000 for each failure under the passenger, crew and service information (Civil Penalty) Regulations 2015. Moreover, the letter also sought explanation from Shahnawaz within 28 days, asking him as to why the charge should not be imposed on him.
When contacted, Aamir Memon, PIA spokesman, confirmed to have received a notification of potential liability from the UK border force. He said that Managing Director Shahnawaz Rehman was asked to give explanation over the issues raised by the UK border force. He said that PIA in its response informed that airline took a serious action on the issues and they had now started scanning the baggage of crew members before taking them on board. He said that airline was strictly fulfilling the requirement of the UK border force and PIA had also requested it to waive off civil penalty, which was up to £10,000.
