The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged the government to tackle problems following grave concerns over a general strike call by the Air Cargo Agents Association (ACCA) and the Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association (PIFFA).
The LCCI President Ijaz Mumtaz said that the strike could give a big blow to the export-oriented industry already facing various internal and external challenges. At present when we are talking to enhance the exports, the strike could reverse the government's efforts aimed at economic revival of the country.
The strike of the ACAA and PIFFA will not only cause hardship to the exporters but the government will also be the ultimate loser as far as revenue collection is concerned." He also warned that the strike could virtually bring exports and imports to a halt that would not only hit the exports hard but the industrial wheel would be stopped because of the absence of imported raw material. He suggested that the concerned sides sit and talk to avert anarchy and that the government, too, take appropriate measures in the future.
