Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Gyan Chand Essrani has said the Excise Department will be synchronised with the Police Department to eradicate vehicle snatching. The minister said that the police vehicles will also be passed through scanning system of Excise Department. This he said in a meeting jointly chaired by him along with Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwer Sayal said a statement on Monday. The meeting was attended by Inspector General Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali, Home Secretary Mukhtar Ahmed Soomro, Secretary Excise and Taxation Mudassir Iqbal, Director General Excise Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh, Director Headquarters Akhter Azad and other officials concerned.
It was decided that the data of Motor Registration Wing of the Excise Department would be linked with Traffic Police as well as CPLC and ACLC. The minister said that broker system should be eliminated in Motor Registration Wing and the Co-operation of law enforcement agencies to be sought at each stage of registration. The system may be computerised to minimise corruption, he added. He added that the use of fancy number plates is illegal and action should be taken against such users, no matter how powerful they are. He said that the Motor Dealer Association might also be bound that they should take care of number plates along with documents while sale and purchase of the vehicles.
The Home Minister and the Excise Minister said that a campaign would be launched very soon against fancy number plates and such vehicles might be confiscated and their owners punished and fined. For this purpose, a campaign would be started in electronic and print media and after that no excuse would be acceptable, he added. The Excise Minister said that for the issuance of number plates, tender had been given and very soon number plates would be issued to owners of vehicles. The IG Sindh briefed the provincial ministers that the snatching of vehicles is on a decline. "We are benefiting from the latest technology and have got help for computerised data of the Excise Department to curb the crime he added.
