Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has asked the district and municipal administration and the traders of Kohat to ensure mutual co-operation for making the drives against encroachments, spurious drugs and adulterated and substandard food item a success. He ordered the municipal authorities to accommodate the remaining commission agents in the new fruit and vegetable market who were affected by removal of the old market on expiry of its lease period.
Directing the local government department to examine the demand made by the commission agents for establishing another vegetable market on a private land under the law, the Chief Minister made it clear that the administration was carrying out uncompromised operations against encroachments, spurious drugs and substandard food items to comply with the provincial government's orders. Talking to a joint delegation of the Traders Action Committee and other business bodies of Kohat city, Pervez Khattak said that such measures were being taken for the convenience of the citizens and protection of their rights throughout the province. The delegation, led by the provincial Minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi and the Chief Minister's Advisor, Amjad Afridi, called on the Chief Minister at CM House. The MPA, Ziaullah Bangash, Secretary Local Government department, and officers of the district and municipal administration of Kohat were also present on this occasion.
The Chief Minister said that under a policy, the provincial government was shifting the public transport stands and fruit and vegetable markets at open and convenient places preferably away from the busy urban centers to avoid traffic congestion etc. He, however, asked the administration to taking the traders into confidence while undertaking all operations against encroachments, shifting of the market and drives against spurious drugs and adulterated foods as well as the price and quantity checking. On a complaint, he ordered imposition of immediate ban on sale of the petroleum products except by the filling stations and directed the concerned authorities to address the objections of the petrol pump owners regarding checking of the weight and measures.
