The Karachi Port handled 81,494 tonnes of cargo comprising 70,709 tonnes of import cargo and 10,785 tonnes of export cargo including 3,996 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 70,709 tonnes comprised of 30,088 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10,785 tonnes of bulk cargo: 5,820 tonnes of DAP; 3,651 tonnes of SB meal; 1,314 tonnes of urea and 29,836 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 10,785 tonnes comprised of 3,099 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo; 7,136 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 450 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,996 containers comprising of 2,382 containers import and 1,614 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 618 of 20's and 882 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 87 of 20's and 29 of 40's loaded containers while 567 of 20's and 451 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely Sima Prestige, X-Press Kailash, ST Aqua and Carolina Wind carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. X-Press Kailash, YM Excellence, Oriental Lotus, Bunga Laurel, Overseas Athens, NOCC Pamplona and Ocean Innovation carrying containers, oil tankers, vehicles and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely YM Excellence and NOCC Pamplona carrying containers and vehicles respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday.
There were four vessels viz. MSC Carolina, Bahamas, Silver Phillippha and Al Mahboobah carrying containers, oil tanker and chemical respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz. Stadt Marburg, Robert Rickmers, Kowie, MT Quetta, Shalamar and Grand Race carrying containers, oil tankers and vehicles respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 73,929 tonnes includes 7,606 tonnes of soyabean; 16,255 tonnes of edible oil; 255 tonnes of urea; 15,563 tonnes of chemical and 24,251 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 10,920 tonnes includes 10,920 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were four ships namely CV Al Bahia, CV MSK Detroit, CV MSC Carolina and MV Vest Holmen carrying containers and chemical sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely MV Countess carrying soyabean are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Alliance St Louis, CV Al Bahia, CV MSK Detroit, CV MSC Carolina, MV Ocean Kite, MV Countess, MV Vest Holmen, MV White Purl and MT Horizon currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, urea, soyabean, chemical, LPG mix and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as five ships carrying containers, edible oil and general cargo at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Wednesday. There were five vessels carrying containers and chemical took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are eight ships namely CV Palona, CV CMA CGM Samson, CV MSK Campala, MV Han Hai, MV Jiarun, MV Maria, MT OKY Roe and MT Super Eastern carrying containers, general cargo, urea, LPG mix, furnace oil and edible oil respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.
