Twelve more people suffered heatstroke as the searing heat continued to persist in the city on the third consecutive day on Friday. The city's maximum temperature which remained 41 degrees Celsius on Friday forced most of the citizens to stay indoors. The city's routine life was partly affected due to less commercial activities and thin public transport on roads, especially during afternoon hours.
According to sources, all those who suffered heatstroke on Friday were shifted to different hospitals of the metropolis. Recreational places such as parks, cinema houses, Clifton's Sea View, Quaid-e-Azam's mausoleum also wore deserted look on Friday as people stayed indoors to protect themselves from the scorching heat. Health experts have also advised the citizens to keep themselves hydrated and avoid direct exposure to sun rays. Meanwhile, Met office has announced that the heatwave will continue to persist in the city on Saturday, as well.
As the citizens' memory was still afresh about June's searing heat that had claimed more than 1200 lives, most of them preferred to stay indoors, particularly during afternoon hours. The city administration has already declared emergency in its various major hospitals, besides cancelling holidays of their staff. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has also set up 42 health centres in different parts of the city where doctors, paramedical staff and nurses, provided treatment to the patients affected by the heatwave.
