Due to effective implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the incidents of terrorism have declined by 56 percent during last one year. This was disclosed during provincial cabinet meeting on law and order, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. Provincial Minister for Information Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani disclosed this while briefing media persons about decisions of the cabinet meeting other day. He said the meeting was briefed by KP Additional IG Naeem Khan regarding overall law and order situation.
The minister said the meeting was informed that during last one year, cases of kidnapping for ransom, extortions and killings have been declined by 44 percent, 52 percent and 23 percent respectively, because of effective implementation of NAP in the province. Under the NAP, he said a total of 12,000 search and strike operations were conducted by police, in which 39,000 suspected people were arrested, 11,000 arms and 3,32,000 ammunitions were seized and 340 kilogram explosive was recovered.
The meeting further told that as many as 6,000 arms and 200,000 ammunitions were recovered. Regarding performance of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the minister said a total of 429 suspected terrorists were arrested in more than 244 registered cases. He said action was taken against more than 1,700 people due to having fake CNIC cards. The minister said action was also taken against those spreading hatred materials and wrong use of loudspeaker. In this regard, he said more than 150 and 1,174 people were arrested. He said the cabinet eulogised the performance of CTD and Police department and expressed hope that the force will continue efforts for combating terrorism with same zeal.
Flanked by Secretary Information and Director Mushtaq, Ghani said the provincial cabinet also approved policy for provision of clean drinking water, which was envisaged by KP Department of Public Health Engineering (KP-PHE) in collaboration with World Bank, Unicef, Rural Support Organisation Network (RSPN). He said the meeting was informed that about 82 percent population have access to clean drinking water in the province, whereas water supplying to 41 percent through pipeline. The minister said the provincial cabinet meeting also approved Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical Teaching Institute Reforms (Amendment) Act 2015. He said the meeting also lifted the ban on condition of No Objection Certificate (NoC) for new industrial units, except arms and ammunitions, radioactive substances, explosives materials, current paper and ornaments, alcohol. He said the policy would give boost to industrialisation in the province.
