Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday sought support of Jamaat-e-Islami in upcoming by-election in NA-122 constituency. A PTI delegation led by Chaudhry Sarwar met Mian Maqsood, head of Jamaat-e-Islami's Lahore chapter and asked him to back PTI in upcoming by-polls, which is scheduled to be held on October 11. Maqsood said that the decision in this regard would be taken after consultations with JI leadership.
The announcement was made after a round of consultations between JI and a delegation of PTI led by Chaudhry M Sarwar at JI headquarters Mansoora Lahore.
The PTI delegation comprised Abdul Aleem Khan, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, Deputy Punjab Organizer Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Lahore Organizer MNA Shafqat Mahmood.
They met JI Lahore Ameer Mian Maqsood, Ehsaan Ullah Waqas, Zafrullah Mujahid, Khaliq Ahmad Butt and central spokesperson Qaisar Sharif for more than an hour. Both sides discussed the situation in NA 122, by election and relevant matters.
Addressing a joint press conference following the meeting, Chaudhry Sarwar said that PTI's electoral symbol cricket bat has become a symbol of people's aspirations and its slogans can be hear in each nook and corner of Lahore. "The victory in this battle belongs to PTI unless PML-N resorts to its old methods of getting votes through secret hands", stated Chaudhry Sarwar. He told the media that discussion with JI leaders proved fruitful and party would support Abdul Aleem Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui.
He was of the opinion that the ideal coalition of PTI and JI has done its best to provide the basic facilities of education and health in KPK.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, unlike Punjab Police, is totally free of political influence and all postings and transfers are done on merit, he added.
He further said that the parties have completed their arrangements already for local government polls but still seat adjustment with JI was not out of question.
