The Karachi Port handled 85,316 tonnes of cargo comprising 72,808 tonnes of import cargo and 12,508 tonnes of export cargo including 3,033 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 72,808 tonnes comprised of 19,235 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,248 tonnes of general cargo; 18,134 tonnes of bulk cargo: 5,170 tonnes of coal; 3,072 tonnes of DAP; 4,716 tonnes of SB meal; 5,176 tonnes of urea and 29,191 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 12,508 tonnes comprised of 11,857 tonnes of containerised cargo and 551 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 3,033 containers comprising of 1,251 containers import and 1,782 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 511 of 20's and 367 of 40's loaded while 2 of 20's and 2 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 354 of 20's and 120 of 40's loaded containers while 414 of 20's and 387 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were two ships namely Shalamar and Imari carrying oil tanker and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Northern Power, Duck Hunter, Turris, Hudson Trader-II, Ikan Sembak and Imari carrying containers, oil tanker, fertiliser, coal and steel respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely OOCL California, Silver Philippha and Shandong Hai Tong carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Northern Power, Duck Hunter and A Idefix carrying containers respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There were three vessels A Idefix, Oriental Diamond and Nave Cassiopeia carrying containers, mogas and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. Sudair, Uafl Zanzibar, APL Cyprine and Grand Race carrying containers and vehicles respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
The total import cargo of 42,974 tonnes includes 11,250 tonnes of edible oil; 14,100 tonnes of chemical; 6,774 tonnes of urea; 1,400 tonnes of fertiliser and 9,450 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 12,054 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were three ships namely CV Rabelais, MV Ocean Kite and MT Chemroute Sky carrying containers, urea and edible oil sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely CV LNG/C Gas Log Sydney, MV Sun Ploeo and MV Juist carrying containers, chemical and fertiliser are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of eight vessels viz. CV Rabelais, MV Ocean Kite, MV Atlantic Glory, Atlantic Miracle, Juist, Jia Run, MV Sun Ploeo, MT Horizon and MT Chemroute Sky currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, urea, chemical, fertiliser and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as two ships carrying containers were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday. There were three vessels carrying containers, chemical and edible oil took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are four ships namely CV MSC Rachele, CV Tommy Richter, MV Brizo and MT Bunga Akasia carrying containers, chemical and edible oil respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
