The 9th Muharram procession that began from Nishtar Park on Friday morning culminated peacefully at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar, amid tight security measures taken by law-enforcement agencies. The participants of the procession on the way to Imambargah Hussainian Iranian offered their Namaz-e-Zohrain at Imambargah Ali Raza on M. A. Jinnah Road.
The procession ended at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian after Namaz-e-Maghrib after passing through its traditional route of Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, M. A. Jinnah Road, Preedy Street, Boultan Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Muhammad Khanji Road. Earlier, an Alam procession was taken out from Liaquatabad's Markazi lmambargah to Martin Road Imambargah. It later proceeded towards Nishtar Park. Mourners who were carrying black flags and banners inscribed with religious scriptures continued to beating their chests, while some of them were seen flaying their backs with sharp knives.
In their speeches, religious scholars threw light on the great sacrifices rendered by Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions at Karbala for the noble cause of humanity and justice and urged the faithful to follow into their footsteps. Though vehicular traffic was not allowed to proceed towards the route of the procession, the city traffic police have made alternative traffic arrangements. Control rooms set up at the offices of Commissioner Karachi and deputy commissioners continued to monitor the situation, while an aerial surveillance of the procession was carried out.
Entry of vehicles and pedestrians to all roads and streets, connecting the route of the procession, were completely sealed by placing containers, while the Bomb Disposal Squad had carried out sweeping of the route of main procession. All encroachments had already been removed from the entire route of the procession and all shops and markets were sealed. Ambulances, fire tenders and staff of different rescue services were present all along the route of the procession to meet any eventuality.
