Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar Friday emphasised close collaboration and consultation among relevant ministries to control cyber crime. The minister chaired a meeting of senior officials of Ministry of Information Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior for deliberations on various aspects of cyber security and cyber crime.
Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rehman Khan briefed the meeting on the background and developments in the matter, including the ongoing review of the World Summit on Information Society by UNGA.
She shared her views on the various issues involved, as well as legal provisions that existed to ensure cyber security.
After detailed deliberations, the meeting decided to bring all relevant ministries and stakeholders together for consultative process under a National Platform.
The Ministry of Information Technology would prepare draft operating procedures to improve the present consultative process, it was decided.
The consultative body would consolidate the work already done by different ministries and prepare its recommendations. It would also be responsible for developing the future roadmap in the sector. The Finance Minister emphasised the need for close co-ordination and collaboration between all IT related departments for better planning.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatemi, Secretary Foreign Affairs, Aitezaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Shahid Khan as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Finance attended the meeting.
