Senate is set to take up controversial deal of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) between Pakistan and Qatar on Monday as opposition lawmakers are still not aware of agreements made between two countries in relation to import of LNG. The government will also present a detailed report in Senate regarding relief and rehabilitation work done by the government and other subsequent steps taken by it in the wake of the October 26 earthquake that claimed several precious lives.
A resolution would also be moved asking the government to announce concession in customs duties and taxes for importers of Balochistan province. The senators of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will also be back in the house after government formed a committee to address MQM''s grievances with regard to the Karachi operation. According to the agenda, another resolution will also be moved for recommendations of the House that "the Government should include the Keti Bunder Port, Sindh in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the light of Articles 37 and 38 of the "Principles of Policy" of the Constitution as discussed by the CPEC Special Committee and its recommendations for reducing the gap between the developed and underdeveloped areas of Pakistan. Connecting the Keti Bunder Port to Karachi - Lahore Motorway (KLM) would give an unprecedented boost to the national economy due to it being a deep Sea Port, close proximity to Karachi and direct access to Thar Coal project."
The PPP would also move "The National Accountability (Amendment) Bill, 2015" in the House for introduction. When contacted, MQM Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi told Business Recorder that they would attend Senate session on Monday. According to him, they will continue to fight for the rights of the common man.
He said that MQM lawmakers have submitted a letter to Senate Secretariat to withdraw their resignations. He said that they would formally withdraw their resignations and meet Senate chairman before the start of session. Senator Kalsoom Parveen will move a resolution in the House for a discussion and recommendations that "the government should take effective steps to ensure the completion of all remaining projects envisaged / promised under the Aaghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan Package. Senator Karim Ahmed Khwaja would move a resolution in the House on the need for setting up of natural science museums in the country.
The motions regarding (i) production of electricity and procedure for area-wise fixation of schedule for load shedding, (ii) fixation of high electricity tariffs on account of under declared efficiency of plants run on furnace oil, operated by the IPPs and government sector and the need of a fresh efficiency audit of those plants, (iii) the confession of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh that India played a role in the break-up of Pakistan, (iv) the causes, remedies and preventive measures to control poverty in the country and (v) the need for construction of a ring road in Islamabad / Rawalpindi keeping in view the increase in volume of traffic and traffic congestion on entry points of these cities would also be moved in the House for discussion.
