The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has further consolidated its lead in the local government (LG) elections in Sindh. In the first phase, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held LG polls on October 31. In Sindh, these elections were held in eight districts of the province.
APP Sukkur correspondent reported on Sunday evening that according to unofficial and unconfirmed results, the PPP was leading in first phase of Local Government elections in Sindh and has so far bagged 720 seats. The independent candidates secured 174 seats whereas the PML-F got 71 seats. JUI-F secured 11. The PTI got five seats, MQM four seats, PML-N three while the others bagged 12 seats in Sindh.
The polling was held in Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Qamber, Larkana, Shahdadkot and Jacobabad districts in Sindh province. Meanwhile, the Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has congratulated the party workers on what he called PPP's `clean sweep' in the first phase of the LG polls in Sindh.
In a statement here on Sunday he said that this speaks of the confidence on the people of Sindh in the PPP and its leadership. As the unofficial results poured in, winning candidates and their jubilant supporters across Sindh celebrated victories by dancing to the drum beats and chanting party songs.
Although polling in most areas was by and large peaceful, Khairpur saw deadly violence when supporters of rival political parties fought a gun battle which had claimed 11 lives.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered re-polling in two UCs, four Wards in Sindh due to various complaints.
