KP Senior Minister for Local Govt, Elections and Rural Development (LGE&RD) Inayatullah Khan has said that the present provincial government was quite aware of the problems of the new and financially weak TMAs. He revealed that his provincial government would provide special grants to all such TMAs so that it could be able to stand on its own foot and thus contribute in providing better municipal services to the masses and beautification of the cities.
He was addressing the 2nd meeting of Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) at Civil Secretariat Peshawar. It was chaired by Finance Minister Muzaffer Sayed Advocate and besides its members, 2 MPAs, 2 district and 2 Tehsil Nazims, Secretaries of Local Government, Rural Development, Finance, P&D Local Council Board, law and Local Council Board, Director General Local Government and other concerned high ups also attended.
The meeting took stock of the formula for distribution of resources among TMAs and three tiers of local governments wherein certain decisions were made. It was decided that population would be the top most priority for resource distribution whereas poverty, lag in infrastructure and revenue would follow in importance to ensure justice and transparency in fiscal matters at all the tiers of new Local government system. Inayatullah assured the commission that all the TMAs would be activated and streamlined in all respects to deliver and serve the masses as per their aspirations. He further said that TMAs in KP would not be made white elephants for the government and people unlike in past regimes. However he said that all its genuine problems would be sorted out for good so enable it deliver in befitting manner.
