The Supreme Court Wednesday asked counsel for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to submit a fresh black and white response over the matter of reducing number of mobile phone SIMs from 10 to 5 against a single Computerised National Identity Card.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed the hearing of China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak) Zong plea seeking the court directives for the PTA to restrain from extending the apex court's order for maximum limit of 5 Voice SIMs to data-only SIMs. In May 21, 2012, while taking a serious notice of the law and order situation in Balochistan, the Supreme Court had issued directives to the authorities concerned to reduce the number of SIMs from 10 to 5 only to be purchased against one CNIC - whether from one or more service providers.
