Al-Khidmat Foundation has demanded of federal and provincial governments to increase the announced aid package for people, affected by devastating earthquake on October 26, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country. The demand was made by Foundation Provincial President Noorul Haq, while speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Friday.
The Foundation President said there was desperate need to provide tents, blankets, warm clothes, food items, to earthquake-hit people in Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Dir upper & lower, Buner, Swat and Torghar districts of KP. Besides, he asked the authorities to take prompt steps for provision of medical facilities, and rehabilitation of boundary walls in the affected districts.
Flanked by representatives of the foundation, he demanded of the federal and provincial governments to increase the announced aid package for recent earthquake affected people in KP and elsewhere in the country. He further said the compensation package should be disbursed in one instalment with immediate reconstruction of damaged institutions, rehabilitation of affected people, waiving off utility bills, and subsidy of petroleum products in hit areas.
Haq said Al-Khidmat Foundation had immediately launched its rescue and relief operations, following devastating earthquake, which hit several districts in KP. He informed more than 5,000 workers and volunteers of organisation took part in the operation, saying the foundation had so far distributed Rs 800 million among the affected families.
He said around 65 ambulances took part in relief operation, while more than 26 free medical camps had been established in quake-affected areas of KP. He further said as many as 6,048 tents, over 4,000 food packages, 2,400 winter package (quilts), 2,000 blankets, 800 jerry canes, and 25 ton rice distributed among affected families.
