LB elections: Capital police chalk out comprehensive security plan

Keeping in view growing threats of terrorism, the city police have chalked out comprehensive security plan to ensure peaceful conduct of first ever Local Bodies' (LB) polls to be held in the federal capital on November 30. "Under the security plan, over 8000 security personnel of the Pakistan army, Rangers, Frontier Constabulary (FC), city and Azad Jammu Kashmir police would be deployed across the city to ensure peaceful conduct of elections and complete implementation on the Election Commission of Pakistan code of conduct", a senior police official said.
He said that the law enforcement agencies would ensure special security and there would be a complete ban on weapons display during polling day. "A total of 640 polling stations will be established at 326 buildings", he said, adding out of 640 polling stations, 64 polling stations are sensitive.
The official said that under the security plan, personnel of Pakistan army would be deployed at 64 sensitive police stations. Out of total polling stations, 261 will be for males and 256 for females. However, 123 polling stations will be combined for both men and women.
He said that the special branch of Islamabad police has collected data of contesting candidates and their close supporters in order to take action against them if they tried to commit any unlawful act. The official said that the city police will also conduct air surveillance of the capital city during the polling day.
He said commandoes of Islamabad police, lady police, anti terrorists' squad, quick response force and bomb disposal squad would be deployed in the various parts of the city in order to give quick response to any untoward situation. Police official said that fire brigade, Rescue 1122 and city main hospitals including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic and Capital hospital would be put on high alert.
He said that the strength of police at the entry points of Islamabad would also be enhanced in order to ensure strict checking of vehicles entering and leaving the city. Policemen in plainclothes will be deputed at different locations for collection of advance intelligence, he said.
As many as 6,76,795 registered voters will use their right to vote in the 50 Union Councils (UCs) of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) in the upcoming Local Bodies' (LB) polls to be held on November 30. Out of total registered voters the strength of male voters in the ICT is 3, 66, 899 and female voters 3, 09, 896.
