Brushing aside the impression that the Pakistan People's Party has deviated from its ideology, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said here on Monday that even dictators have not succeeded in doing so during the last four decades. Addressing a rally in Malir in connection with PPP's foundation day, Bilawal Bhutto said the party was founded by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to wake up the poor.
He said Bhutto laid the foundation of PPP when Pakistan's interests were being sold after a war that the country had already won. He said his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became voice of Allama Muhammad Iqbal by laying foundation of the PPP and raising voice for the labourers.
He urged the labourers, peasants, and poor to unite against the forces of oppression. Bilawal said he wants to send a message to those who have hatched conspiracies against the PPP since its inception that an ideology could not be eliminated. The PPP chairman said his party was waging a war against terrorism and would continue doing so till the elimination of the last terrorists on Pakistan's soil. "Anybody who supports the violent elements is a traitor," he added.
"If you support me, I will stand by with you like Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto," he said. Bilawal also announced his party will resist privatisation of public institutions. He asked how long will the PPP opponents continue to build 'political robots' and announced to embark on countrywide visits to 'strengthen party'.
Bilawal said he wants to make it clear to the 'political orphans' and 'courtiers' that no-one can sway his party supporters from its ideals. He said the battle will continue until the last terrorist is taken out "because our party is against terrorism". The PPP chairman said they won't allow privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills. He said there will be strong resistance over carving out of the public institutions.
Emphasising the need for young leadership, Bilawal announced to run a countrywide contact campaign and took pledges of support from the workers. He led chanting of slogans "Karachi belongs to whom?" amid loud responses in favour of the party from the crowd.
At the conclusion of his address, he responded to the supporters' slogans by waving his hands. The party workers and supporters kept dancing to the tunes of the party songs.
