The Japanese Envoy apprised the Minister about the intention to provide 5 billion yen worth of concessional loan to Pakistan for the 2nd Energy Sector reform programme. This loan is part of the Energy Sector Reform Program that is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. The Governments of Pakistan and Japan would in due course prepare for signing of bilateral agreement on the concessional loan.
The Japanese Government had earlier also provided 5 billion yen for the 1st Energy Sector reform programme. The Japanese envoy also on this occasion reiterated his country's interest in undertaking the Lakhra power project. He said since the Pakistan government is attaching due significance to energy projects, Japan wishes to assist in its efforts to overcome the problem of shortage of electricity.
The Finance Minister appreciated the continued support by Japan for economic projects in Pakistan.
