The Business and Industrial community of Multan has congratulated Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) over its victory in local bodies' elections in the city with thumping majority. President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Fareed Mughis Sheikh said that business community was confident that newly-elected mayor will do his best for the development and prosperity of ancient city of Multan.
He said that People of Multan were facing many problems including unclean drinking water, faulty sewerage system, shamble roads and streets. There are dilapidated buildings of schools of Municipal Corporation. Fareed Sheikh said that Multan was the largest city of South Punjab and economic hub of the area.
Multan has a potential for the tourists because it was an historical city and the city of shrines. This city is birth place of Ahmed Shah Abdali. It produces good quality mangoes and cotton. There is dire need of housing colonies because more than 50,000 homes are required immediately to accomodate the homeless persons.Senior Vice President of MCCI Ata Shafi Tanvir Sheikh said since decades not much development work has been carried out in the industrial areas of Multan, roads and streets of industrial areas are in bad condition, municipal services have failed to provide cleanliness and other needs for the industry, and piles of garbage are covering every corner of the city and these issues are not only matter of concern for inmates but also present a repulsive picture for foreigner, investors and visitors.
