Professor Saleh Memon, Chairman National Diabetic Working Group of Pakistan inaugurated a pre-conference workshop on "Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Clinic" at Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad, here on Friday. This clinic was established on the directives of Vice Chancellor Professor Noshad A Shaikh to prevent blindness in the patients of diabetes by screening the patients with diabetic retinopathy in the early stage of the disease.
The workshop was organised by the Department of Medicine and Ophthalmology Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro. While addressing the participants Professor Bikharam expressed that diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes and may not have any symptoms or may not affect sight in the early stages but in the advance level, eyesight will be affected eventually.
Professor Khalid Iqbal Talpur informed that the workshop is focused to train the doctors to detect the early changes in the eyes of diabetic patients so that it can be treated. Professor Saleh Memon and Professor Sohail Ahmad Almani also shared their views regarding the prevention of blindness in the diabetic patients.
