Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said here on Friday that Pakistan Rangers had the mandate and powers against four heinous crimes like terrorism, target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion. "But, I am sorry to say that they (Rangers) have also started assuming the role of anti-corruption," he added. He was speaking at a seminar organised by Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) against corruption at the CM House. The chief minister, however, lauded the role of Rangers in restoring peace in Karachi.
Talking about corruption, he said it is not a new phenomenon as it started right from the tenure of Liaquat Ali Khan and then kept on rolling during the induction of unelected governments and finally Ayub Khan imposed martial law. "General Zia once addressing the bureaucracy had asked them 'not to swallow hot food (bribe) but let it be normal before eating it," what he was meant by these dubious advises," he asked and said actually it was he who polluted the society with corruption, inefficiency and made it everywhere. Presenting himself for accountability, the chief minister said:"I am in politics for the last 40 year and have been on important position in the federal and provincial government.
