National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) that former director Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Abdul Qavi Khan grabbed the land allotted for Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and built an illegal apartment building over it. An SHC bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto was hearing the petition filed by Qavi Khan, who is currently in NAB's custody. The petitioner had maintained that he had been harassed by the Bureau in respect to land scam.
During Friday's hearing, NAB filed its reply, stating that inquiry was initiated against former KDA director upon Rangers' report relating to China cutting and land grabbing. According to the NAB, a project namely University Hill Villas had been illegally established on 13 plots, measuring 247 square yards, allocated for a water conduit, and high tension lines of K-Electric.After building the project, Qavi Khan had sold the plots and received funds in his personal accounts, NAB told SHC. The NAB's report went on to say that former KDA officer caused a huge loss to the national exchequer and is not entitled to any discount and his plea should be rejected. Earlier, the petitioner submitted that he was issued a notice by NAB on 18th November 2015, and later he was arrested on 26th November after his arrest warrant issued by NAB. He submitted that he has nothing to do with any corruption or embezzlement, and he suffering from several diseases and is a chronic diabetic patient.
