The 33rd meeting of the Senate of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore approved Rs 2.7 billion budget for 2015-16 here on Monday. The approved budget includes the recurring and development budget of Rs 2633.281 million and Development budget Rs 2997.021 million, both for income and expenditures with a deficit of Rs 71.068 million.
Governor of Punjab/ Chancellor of the University Malik Rafiq Rajwana presided over the 33rd meeting of the UET senate. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid presented the report for 33rd meeting of the Senate and said that as per HEC ranking 2015, UET is one of the top three universities of Pakistan. He also talked about several new initiatives which are in pipeline including the establishment of Chinese Language Centre, Institute of Professional Development and various other multidisciplinary Research Projects.
The case regarding up-gradation of posts of Registrar, Treasurer, Controller of Examinations in BPS-20 and creation of new posts was referred back to the Syndicate with the remarks that it should also include other posts like Chief Librarian, Project Directors, Chief Medical Officer, Director Planning and Development etc and comprehensive draft statues should be proposed in the next meeting of Senate.
At the end the Malik Rafiq Rajwana Governor of Punjab/ Chancellor appreciated the house for its democratic approach. He said the Senate session was very thought provoking. Talking to media persons he said that "we are making policy for regulation of the posts of Registrar, Controller of Examination and Treasure in the different universities. He further said "I feel great honour to visit UET Lahore, UET is the pioneer and the largest institute of education in Engineering, Science and Technology in the country". All deans of faculties and a large number of members of the Senate attended the meeting. Imran Babar, Treasurer UET Lahore presented the budget estimates 2015-16. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
