Oncology ward at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), offering a wide range of in and out department services to an average number of 500 patients daily, is in dire need of additional number of qualified oncologists as well nursing and paramedical staff with specialised training in cancer management.
Five oncologists, supported by a team of RMOs, are presently attending the growing number of cancer patients, arriving here with varied stages of the disease.
The facility well equipped with all essential gadgets and support mechanism including the critically needed radiation and chemeo-therapy support provided at the day care centres of the department is also found to be over stretched. "Ever growing pressure has turned available facilities to be dwindling," said senior doctors associated with the department. In reply to a question they told APP that commitment of professionals associated with the department, including many doctors volunteering their services for ailing humanity, did encourage donors to come forward with needed assistance in terms of medicines and other essential requirements.
