Hacker jailed over leaking Jennifer Lawrence’s private photos
In 2014, many of the Apple Ids of Hollywood celebrities were hacked, in which nude photographs of the actress Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrities were made public on the internet. The hacker who leaked private photos of female celebrities has now been sentenced to eight months in prison.
George Garofano who was the one of the hackers behind the scandal has confessed that he used the personal information of the users to hack into roughly 240 iCloud accounts. Prosecutors said that between April 2013 and October 2014 Garofano sent emails that appeared to be from Apple that encouraged victims to disclose their usernames and passwords or to enter them on a third-party website where he would later retrieve them.
According to foreign media reports, the hacker has been sentenced to eight month in prison in the US and is expected to begin the prison sentence in October 2018. Three other hackers who participated in the leak have already been sentenced, each getting between 9-month and 18-months prison terms.
“When the hacking thing happened, it was so unbelievably violating that you can’t even put it into words,” Lawrence once told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2017.
Apart from Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Kristen Dunst and Kate Upton fall victims of the leak scandal in 2014.
