The prices of food grains, vegetable, chicken, and other daily use items have reduced in wholesale and retail markets. Traders and vendors in the provincial metropolis on Sunday attributed the decrease in the prices of essential food times to fresh arrival of these commodities and improved cultivation in the country.
A considerable decline was recorded in the prices of all kinds of veggies. The price of a five kilogram tomato has reduced to Rs 150 from Rs 200, while the rate of ginger has declined from Rs 180 to Rs 140 per kg, and a one-kg garlic is available at Rs 220, whereas a five-kg potato is being sold at Rs 70 and Rs 80 per kg.
Similarly, a five-kg onion is being sold at Rs 170, which was earlier being sold at Rs 220 per kg. Peas are available at Rs 80 per kg, and ladyfinger at Rs 120 per kg.
A slight decline has also been witnessed in the prices of pulses, as a 49-kg bag of high quality rice is being sold at Rs 7,000 against Rs 7,200, while a 49-kg sac of sugar is available at 3,000 against Rs 3,185.
Similarly, Dal channa 49-kg bag is being sold at Rs 3,600, which was earlier available at Rs 4,000, while malaka masoor is available at Rs 5,800 against Rs 6,000, red bean is being sold at Rs 4,000 against Rs 4,500, and mawa at Rs 6,000.
A 49-kg bag of daal maach is available at Rs 7,000 against the old rate of Rs 7,500, mongi daal sac of 49-kg is being sold at Rs 7,000 and Rs 7,500. While, a 49-kg bag of daal green is available at Rs 6,200 in the wholesale market.
A 10-kg of cooking oil is available at Rs 1,670, 5-kg tin of ghee is being sold at Rs 940, while 16-litre cooking oil is available at Rs 2,170. A five-kg sugar is available at Rs 260 against Rs 280.
However, the prices of flour have increased in the wholesale and retail markets, as 85-kg bag is available at Rs 3,900, which was available at Rs 3,600 in the last week. Similarly, the retail rates have also steadily increased, as a fine flour is being sold at Rs 46 per kg against Rs 38 per kg, while brown atta is being sold at Rs 42 per kg against Rs 32 per kg in the last week.
A fall in the prices of chicken items was also witnessed, as a good weight chicken is available at Rs 250 and Rs 270, while chicken meat is being sold at Rs 128 per kilogram against the Rs 140 per kg during the preceding week. A dozen of farm egg is being sold at Rs 120 and original red egg is available at Rs 200 and Rs 180 per dozen.
It was noticed that the prices of cow meat and beef remained unchanged, as both are being sold at the previous prices of Rs 300 and Rs 650 per kilogram respectively.
Fresh milk is available at Rs 90 and Rs 70 per litre, yogurt is being sold at Rs 90 and Rs 80 per kg. Carton pack milk of various companies is available with different rates, as a carton of 12 packs is being sold at Rs 1,100, Rs 1,050, Rs 910 and Rs 860.
Apple is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, orange at Rs 90 per dozen, banana at Rs 50 and Rs 60 per dozen, guava at Rs 80 per kg, kinnow at Rs 50 and Rs 60 per dozen.
