In a bid to show solidarity with the citizens of Indian-held Kashmir, the 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' was observed in Hyderabad and its adjacent areas. In Hyderabad, all educational institutes and government sector offices remained closed on Friday. Kashmir solidarity walks, special ceremonies, seminars, public congregation and prayers were observed from across the city, which were held by political parties, religions parties, civil society organisations and people from all walks of life.
The police has also finalised security arrangements to face any untoward incident on the occasion. According to reports, the first time 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' was observed in Pakistan was in 1990 on the call of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was the then opposition leader and chief minister of Punjab.
PPP Minority Wing Kotri, PPP Workers Hyderabad Chapter, Jamiat-E-Ulma-Islam, Jamat-u-Dawa (JUD) and others held Kashmir solidarity walk and those walks converged in public gathering outside Hyderabad Press Club (HPC). On the speaking on the occasion, Poonjo Mal Parmar, Riaz Nazir, Hafiz Muhammad Azam Jahangiri and others have demanded the United Nations, US and the International Court of Justice to take notice of Indian terrorism in Kashmir and help resolve the issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.
The participants said it seemed that UN has ignored this issue, which is the most important conflict of the world. They said that Pakistanis can never ignore their Kashmiri brethren and they would raise their voice on all forums. They also demanded the government not to ignore the issue in the name of diplomacy.
