Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak said that provincial government has given a hope of bright future to the youth by introducing merit and bringing transparency in recruitment process in the province. This he said while talking to a delegation of British Council, headed by, Peter Upton Country Director of the organisation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad on Friday. Beside experts of British Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Education, Muhammad Atif Khan, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan and others were present on the occasion.
The Country Director, British Council expressed sympathy with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the tragic terrorist incident of Bacha Khan University. He also shared details of the provincial ministers' visit to Scotland recently. The Country Director British Council lauded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government commitment for promotion of education in the province. He added that foundations of the school improvement and reforms program of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government were very strong. He remarked that steps of the provincial government for bringing transparency would not only lead Pakistan but Asia also.
The British Council delegation informed the Chief Minister that the organisation would help in capacity building of the teachers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in English language. They also showed interest in improvement of school enrolment through community participation and providing favourable atmosphere to students to check dropout rate. Similarly the British Councils experts told to help in monitoring and assessment of teachers to standardize grading system of the public sector schools in the province.
Talking to the delegation, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that introduction of merit in recruitment of job had end disappointment of poor people. "Now they are hopeful of getting job only on their capability", he remarked. He said that provincial government was following strictly merit policy as it had no vested interest at all. He informed that the government had provided one window operation opportunity to the industrialists by introducing industrial policy in the province. He said the industrialists would have to provide list of the skilled manpower required by them to the government. For this purpose he said Skill Development would need to be improved. The Chief Minister added that powers were being devolved from bureaucracy to the people so that common men could get their rights.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was called on by a delegation of Asian Development Bank, comprised of F. Cleo Kawawki Director, Energy Division Central and West Asia department, Lei Zhang, Senior Energy specialist Pak-Resident mission and Adnan Tareen, Energy Lead. Minister for Energy, Muhammad Atif Khan, Advisor to CM for C&W Akbar Ayub, Chief Secretary, Chief Executive PEDO, Secretary for Energy and others were present on the occasion.
The experts of the Asian Development Bank while appreciating energy policy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government showed interest in chalking out power strategy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, development of the micro hydel schemes, including provision of electricity from both hydel and solar sources in the rural areas. Similarly, the Asian Development Bank experts told the CM to fund medium to large power schemes having capacity of generating two to three thousand megawatt electricity. The Chief Minister stressed the need of provision of electricity to schools, health and outlets and portable drinking tube wells on priority basis.
