UN Secretary General's Special Advocate on Inclusive Finance for Development Queen Maxima of Netherlands on Wednesday appreciated the mechanism and performance of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to help needy segments of the society. During her visit to BISP Field Office here, she took keen interest in the PM's National Health Programme (PMNHP) under which free of cost health cover was being provided to the poor suffering humanity.
BISP Chairperson Marvi Memon and Minister of State on National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar received the Queen at the office. A detailed presentation on various projects of BISP was given to the visiting UN envoy. It was informed that after conducting a national survey on poverty, families with daily income of $2 would be provided health cover under the PM's National Health Programme.
Each family would be given up to Rs 50,000 per year for secondary care, and up to Rs 250,000 per year for seven priority care treatment. Besides, PMNHP's other projects including Benazir Debit Card enrolment, CM Interest Free Loans, BISP E-Commerce and BISP Beneficiaries Committee (BBC) for empowering women, also came under discussion during the visit. The Queen also visited different departments and sections of the office and inquired about the facilitation system for the visitors.
Earlier, Queen Maxima inaugurated the recent initiative of BISP on E-commerce which focused on improving handicraft skills of the beneficiaries and provision of better access to their products in the national and international markets with the cooperation of organisations like AHAN-a government organisation and TCS.
