A collection of 15,000 European prints and engravings from 1450 to 1850 has just been added to the internet, thanks to the Kunsthalle art museum in Hamburg, Germany.
Web users who feel like an afternoon at an art gallery can leaf online through 4,000 old master prints and 11,000 Italian engravings. Each is accompanied by its corresponding catalogue data, as written by art-history experts.
They are just a part of the massive collection at the museum's Department of Prints, Drawings and Photography, numbering about 130,000 works - one of the larger collections of its kind in Europe. An even bigger collection, of 200,000 at the Kunsthalle art museum in the nearby city of Bremen, is expected to arrive online too within a few years.
