Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has said that various schemes have been launched to empower women economically.
"Under the BISP, 5.2 million registered women are being provided financial assistance. Distribution process has been simplified to avoid any inconvenience to them," she said speaking at a meeting with BISP beneficiaries and notables here on Sunday.
The BISP Chairperson said that the government was striving to make downtrodden segments of the society economically sound.
She said, through women empowerment program, the beneficiaries would be able send their handicraft work to local office of the BISP with the picture and then their work would be displayed on the webpage of BISP.
"Local handicraft and embroidered products will be showcased in international market to enable women to earn their livelihood in a better manner," she said adding that through this, beneficiaries could easily earn a handsome amount at their homes online.
Marvi Memon said that the present government is committed to address all the issues of women and increase their empowerment, besides focusing on their education and health. She warned that corruption will not be tolerated in the BISP. She said that exceptional performance of the BISP team gave new meaning to the life of marginalized sections of the society. She directed the BISP authorities for increased staff strength in Tharparkar to facilitate deserving people.
Director BISP Sukkur Region Zulfiqar Abro also spoke. He said that BISP was launched for the welfare of poor people, to eradicate poverty from the country and to empower women.
He lauded Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for taking keen interest in the BISP and for constant supervision of the program.
