Culture Journalists Forum (CJF) has welcomed the appointment of Mehmud Khan as Minister for Culture and urged the government for the passage of new cultural policy from the provincial legislature.
The Culture Journalists Forum (CJF) in its meeting has hailed to give the charge of the portfolio of the Culture Department to Mehmud Khan and said expressed the hope that he will soon play his role to table culture policy in provincial assembly. The CJF hailed the untiring efforts for revival of local arts and culture. A meeting of the culture journalist's forum was held here on Sunday at Peshawar Press club in which the participants appreciated the efforts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa culture department for setting up an endowment fund to the tune of Rs 500m for the welfare of the local artists, poets and writers.
Supporting around 500 talented people in KP would prove a historic milestone towards promoting art and culture, the meeting maintained. The meeting held here with President Ihtisham Toru. The meeting also demanded of the provincial minister to approve the draft of the culture policy pending for the last two years and present the same to provincial assembly for approval. It also called for enactment of copy right act instead of the proposed censorship.
The forum said that it was in fact their long-standing demand from the successive government to set up an endowment fund for the artists, poets and writers which was met by the incumbent KP government.
The participants stressed the artist's community to put in new ideas and themes that could help bring peace to the region and encourage new talent to paint a soft image of KP people.
