President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Mansoor Ahmed has hailed the government's decision of allocating Rs 400 million for Sialkot Tannery Zone (STZ) and termed it a right step in a right direction. While talking to Business Recorder on Thursday he said, "This amount would be utilised on installing Effluent Treatment Plant in the tannery zone while remaining funds would be obtained from international donor agencies."
SCCI president further stated that Sialkot Tannery Zone was being developed on 392 acres of land and was designed to accommodate 276 existing tanneries functioning in and close to Sialkot. The concept of setting up STZ was to address growing environmental issues and to ensure pollution-free atmosphere to the people, he said.
Mansoor further stated the project would help in shifting of tanneries located in and around city to centralised location and to provide various facilities like common effluent treatment plant, solid waste disposal site and common effluent collection system.
