Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration seized 2,000 kilogram substandard and unhygienic meat on Thursday and arrested 10 butchers and other workers. An official of the district administration said that following a tipoff, a team of ICT administration headed by Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Police Dr Hasan Waqar Cheema along with veterinary doctor and other relevant staff raided a newly step chiller/ suspected slaughterhouse in the limits of Noon Police Station.
The team recovered 2,000 kilograms of substandard, unsafe, stinking and water infused meat that was brought to the chiller reportedly from Jhang for its further distribution to different areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjacent areas, he said. He said following inspection by the veterinary doctor regarding poor quality of meat that was harmful for human consumption, 10 butchers and workers were taken into custody and unhygienic meat was seized and later destroyed according to the laid down procedure.
The ICT officials sealed the slaughterhouse and registered an FIR against the arrested accused under relevant provisions of law. According to an official statement, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Mushtaq Ahmed reiterated the commitment of ICT administration to continue its campaign against elements involved in adulteration and selling of substandard food in the federal capital.
