The provincial minister for women development has attempted to explain the importance of the Women Protection Bill by saying its purpose is to protect and rehabilitate women subjected to violence.
Minister Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din, while addressing a seminar on "Effective implementation of the protection of women against Violence Bill" at the All Pakistan Women Association headquarters on Monday claimed that "The Punjab will be made a violence-free province and this programme has started in Kasur with the cooperation of Oxfam. The Bill will help control violence of all kinds against women."
The minister then paid tribute to the civil society, women opposition members of the Punjab Assembly and the media on the bill passage, saying besides legal action against anyone subjecting a woman to domestic, physical, emotional, psychological, verbal or economic violence, measures had also been envisaged under the bill.
