The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) on Friday sealed two railways booking offices working in the provincial metropolis under Pakistan Railways Advisory and Consultancy Services (PRACS) on the charges of being non-compliant and not getting themselves registered under the Punjab Sales Tax on Services Act.
Additional Commissioner PRA Salman Ali told Business Recorder that the Authority was making efforts to get the travel agents registered with it and be compliant to the Punjab Sales Tax on Services. He said that two such booking and information offices being run by the PRACS on behalf of the Pakistan Railways were sealed today after a cold shoulder attitude shown by these to repeated notices by the Authority.
One of these booking and information center is situated in Township and the other one on GT Road. He said that these offices were working under PRACS which is not offering booking and information services on behalf of the Pakistan Railways but also extending scientific and engineering consultancy to the railways. He claimed that on both account it had never shown willingness to get itself registered with the Authority and did not bother to give a satisfactory reply to the notices issued to it.
Salman stated that now these offices would have to come to Authority along with documentary proofs of their working. They had to give an undertaking to the Authority not to be non-compliant, file a return and declaration and deposit the tax due against them of the period under question so as to ensure de-sealing of these offices.
Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) had started investigation in to the affairs of the 18 housing societies in the provincial metropolis on the charges of being non-complaint to the provincial sales tax.
