Representatives from the Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MuU) to explore opportunities for growth in Punjab's agriculture, dairy, and meat sectors.
The representatives from PAMCO and the Punjab Enabling Environment Project pledged to promote policy and institutional reforms in these sectors, in consultation with the relevant stakeholders. "The MoU signed today highlights the US government's commitment to improve the business environment in Punjab by supporting policy advocacy and the timely implementation of regulatory reforms," USAID Provincial Director for Punjab Dr Miles Toder remarked.
"The PEEP and PAMCO will work together to spur investment and create employment opportunities by formalising horticulture, dairy, and meat production in the province." Through this memorandum, the USAID Punjab Enabling Environment Project and PAMCO will bring together stakeholders from the livestock, dairy, and horticulture industries of Punjab through policy dialogues. These dialogues will aim to generate joint advocacy efforts that ultimately will lead to growth in all three sectors.
Speaking at the ceremony, PAMCO Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Ilyas Ghauri said, "The collective efforts and combination of resources from PAMCO and the Punjab Enabling Environment Project will accelerate the policy reform process, thereby capitalising on the investment and export opportunities in the targeted sectors." USAID's Punjab Enabling Environment Project is a five-year, $15 million project to improve the business environment in the livestock, dairy, and horticulture sectors of Punjab.
PAMCO is a public sector support agency owned by the Government of Punjab. PAMCO is working to develop and promote the production, processing, and domestic and international marketing of horticulture and meat products, in compliance with international quality standards through public-private channels.
