Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain, Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar has said that being the only public sector engineering university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, UET Peshawar is providing a helping hand in the development of the province by producing quality engineers.
While talking to the gathering arranged for media at Conference Hall of the university, he said that as an academician himself he and his team believed in bringing reforms in the education system at the university and that was why the university was moving towards OBE System of learning. Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain said that since taking over as the Vice Chancellor he has taken a number of decisions which included decentralisation of the duties by giving certain powers to the chairpersons of the departments so to ensure smooth flow of work without any delay.
Professor Dr Noor Muhammad, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Inayat Ullah Babar, Registrar UET Peshawar, Naik Muhammad, Treasurer, Dr Abdul Shakoor, President Engineering University Teachers' Association (EUTA) and Arbab Khusroo, President Engineering University Employees Association were also present on the occasion.
While speaking about the accreditation issue, the VC said that he had taken up the issue with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) on war footings and the issue will be resolved soon. However, he added there was no major issue related to the accreditation.
Regarding the security issues related to the main campus and the remote campuses of UET Peshawar, Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain said that from time to time they received instructions from the security agencies and the government which they fulfil on the part of the university. However, he added, the government assistance was also required in providing foolproof security for the students and the university staff.
Replying to a question regarding the Jalozai Campus of the university, the VC said that classes in four disciplines have already been started in Jalozai Campus and the quality of education at the campus could easily be judged by the fact that the all the faculty at the Jalozai Campus are PhDs.
Meanwhile, replying to a question regarding the post of registrar, Professor Dr Inayat Ullah Babar, Registrar UET Peshawar said that the university administration fully accepts that new law and as per the law the university had already advertised the post of registrar. Professor Dr Inayat Ullah Babar also clarified that the Syndicate during its previous meeting had directed him to continue as Registrar until the appointment of the new one under the new act.
UET Treasurer Naik Muhammad on the occasion informed the media that the university has received only 55 percent of the total amount required for the construction of the Jalozai Campus. Dr Abdul Shakoor, President EUTA and Arbab Khusroo, President of Engineering University Employees Association hailed the leadership qualities and the vision of the new VC and assured him full support for the betterment of the university. Earlier, fateha was also offered for the soul of Hamid Jan, employee of UET Peshawar who lost his life in Peshawar bus blast.
