Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood has directed Inspector General Police (IGP) to allow dowry amount out of the department's "Jahez Fund' to all the daughters of police officers/officials (in service and retired) as was being done by the Punjab government for its employees. The Ombudsman passed these orders on a complaint of a retired police constable namely Muhammad Saleem Khan of district Rahimyar Khan that the police department was not paying dowry amount for his third marriageable daughter as it had restricted its dowry fund for only two daughters.
In his directions, the Ombudsman observed that it was a legitimate demand as denial of dowry fund for more than two daughters tantamount to financial strangulation of policemen.
