Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said Pakistan was desirous of bringing greater depth and economic substance to its relationship with the United States of America. Talking to David Hale, the US Ambassador, who called on him here at the PM House, he said: "The important decisions agreed during my last visit to the US have generated a new momentum in steering our bilateral relations forward."
The Prime Minister said Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue had been instrumental in identifying the achievements made so far and setting new targets under six working groups of the Dialogue. He said "I look forward to have useful exchange of views on bilateral issues, with President Obama during my visit to attend the Nuclear Security Summit later this month."
The PM said Pakistan had a vital stake in peace, stability and development in Afghanistan and was engaged in sincere and consistent efforts for promoting reconciliation through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process. Appreciating the efforts of Pakistan to restore peace in Afghanistan, David Hale said initiatives including the quadrilateral arrangement would prove significantly beneficial in bringing peace to Afghanistan. The Ambassador said achieving a peaceful Afghanistan was in the interest of the entire region and Pakistan's endeavours would help a great deal in that regard. Tariq Fatemi was also present during the meeting.
