Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday admonished high-ups of district administration of twin cities for taking inadequate measures to prevent pro-Qadri supporters from entering in metropolis, especially in Red Zone. An official source said that Interior Minister expressed annoyance over violence and destruction in the twin cities on Sunday when the participants of Mumtaz Qadri's Chehlum moved toward Islamabad from Liaqat Bagh.
The Interior Minister while presiding over a joint meeting of administration of twin cities said that the protection of lives and property of citizens was the responsibility of government and administration. He said the protesters violated the law under the guise of Chehlum which is not acceptable. According to the source, Interior Minister directed high ups of district administration of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to take effective measure for normalising citizen's lives as well as ban entry of more protesters into the protest venue. Sources said that the administration of the both the cities did not present any acceptable solution for removing the protesters from D-Chowk.
The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Secretary Interior and senior official of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The FIA officials informed the meeting that the agency has arrested 321 proclaimed offenders, 17 most wanted criminals, 89 court absconder and 688 other criminals during the ongoing derive against human smugglers. The FIA officials further told the meeting that 75 percent work of establishment of a data base of proclaimed offender have been completed and so far out of 3000 criminals data base of 2196 has been prepared, he said.
He said that the Interior Minister directed FIA official to cancel passports of all proclaimed offenders on immediate basis and place their name on ECL. The official said that Interior Minister also asked FIA officials to speed up the investigation of mega corruption cases and conclude its investigation as soon as possible. Khan asked FIA official to prepare Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) along with State Bank of Pakistan to stop transfer of illegal money including Hawala and Hundi.
