District Government Peshawar has decided taking urgent steps for elimination of rats from the provincial metropolis and announced payment of Rs 25/- prize for each killed rat. The decision was taken in a meeting held here with District Nazim Mohammad Asim Khan in the chair. The meeting reviewed the situation of increase in the number of big size rats and their biting incidents.
Those who attended were included District Health Officer (DHO), Peshawar, Dr Jehangir Khan, Co-ordinator Public Health, Dr Mohammad Atif, and Ashraf Qadir of WSSP and TMOs of all four towns of the district. Presiding over the meeting, District Nazim, Mohammad Asim Khan expressed deep concern over the growing number of large size rats and their biting incidents in the district and sought proposals for the elimination. The meeting decided for taking emergency based measures for complete elimination and for creation of awareness directed the distribution rats killing pesticides and their provision to NIFA and WSSP. For participation of people in the campaign and attracting them, the meeting also decided payment of Rs 25/- per killed rat. For this purpose, the District Nazim directed Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (WSSP) for selecting of points in all four towns and forthwith payment of the prize amount. Similarly, the killed the rats will also be collected through mobile service and payment of prize amount on the spot.
For the elimination of rats in streams, nullahs, scraps godowns and containers, the meeting also decided for hiring the services of the expert rat killer Naseer Ahmad. The meeting directed the formation of teams headed by Naseer Ahmad and constitution of such teams and furnishing of reports in this regard on daily basis.
