The Technical and Vocational Training Authority and the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturing Association are offering seven new short courses to provide trained manpower for the footwear industry. The courses include leather footwear lasting operating, stitching, marking and cutting, design using CAD and CAM, assembly and finishing, management skills and applications and shoe-manufacturing technician.
In a ceremony at the Technical and Vocational Training Authority's Secretariat on Monday, Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and his Pakistan Foot Wear Manufactures Association counterpart, Waseem Zakaria, signed an agreement "to bridge the gap between the two sides to provide skilled manpower for serving in the footwear industry."
"The Technical and Vocational Training Authority will provide a training institute, faculty and curriculum while the Pakistan Foot Wear Manufactures Association will provide machines and equipment, training consumables, internship, advisory support in curricula modification, expert lectures and job opportunities to passing out students. The training delivery mode will be 30 percent institutional training and 70 percent company-driven training which will be nominated by the association," said Chairperson Sheikh. "The Technical and Vocational Training Authority will provide modified curricula, faculty and examination and certification through the Trade Testing Board and the Punjab Board of Technical Education. After passing the examination, the Technical and Vocational Training Authority and the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturing Association will issue a joint certificate of training to all successful candidates."
